The Blessings of the Day
When was the last time you felt blessed,
By birth, by God, by an old friend
Acquaintance who a slight confessed,
By sun appearing after storm’s rage,
By rainbow’s heralding new norm’s page
By stars appearing at day’s end.
The workings of our government
That labors mightily for all
Returning much more than we’ve spent,
By friend who managed to recover,
By passing fancy, now your lover,
By childhood song that you recall.
You shepherd us to pastures green
And gift us all our sovereign days
With watchful eye of peregrine,
White clouds that offer earth a shower
Though blooms may last only an hour
These blessings all deserve our praise.
