The Best of You

What do you do? When your best isn’t good enough Where do you hide? When you’ve stretched yourself To very limit of endurance When you’ve poured out your love To the very last drop When you’ve sacrificed To within a breath of your life Where do you go? How can you live? How can you feel? When the best that you have Is just not good enough To make him love you Where do you go? Where do you hide? When your most precious gifts Are left unopened The receiver convinced That they’re just not good enough To meet his needs Gratify his desires Fill his hunger Thrill his mind Where do you go? Where do you hide? When you no longer have Anything to give Because the best of YOU Just wasn’t good enough For HIM. Eileen Manassian Ghali

Sometimes, we set high standards for our actions and we do fulfil them, at least from our part. But then we stop at others' part.. we wait appreciation.. we wait attention.. we expect many things.. but are we going to have it all?! Some people fail to react perfectly as we please. To me, it is their loss, not ours!! For as far as I know, We did our part!!

Perhaps he's afraid to open because he knows on some level he is incapable of fully experiencing all you have to offer. Do not count it as your failure but rather his own.

Richard...this is so true. But...unfortunately, he misses a lot. Thanks for your insight on this.

A man like that will never love you, just himself, I guess the answer is to look for someone who will appreciate opening those precious gifts and sharing them with you. Lovely write. Take care, Richard

Wow, I would get right on writing poetry about my feelings, and I would share these feelings with my family and friends! It's important to talk about things like this, to get it out into the open, probably one of the most difficult things you can do, talking about your feelings, but it is crucial for a healthy life! Your poem goes into the core of this, what do you do, where do you go, and do you hide? I also spread my pain out into the poetry community so I can reduce my pain there! Great Work!

Thanks, Russell! As you know...we poets usually take a though and run with it and embellish it to make it more...what's the word...powerful? Anyway...sometimes I feel like my poetry isn't good enough, or my best efforts at something...or...and the list goes on. I need to toughen up and look at the bright side, right? Maybe I'm using the wrong evaluation scale on some of these things...could be..could be. Thanks for the visit, and I'm glad Poetry Soup means so much to you, like it does to me.

The only place you go: Forward. No hiding, for somebody actually worthy of you will miss out. And it's never you not worthy of him or her, it's them not worthy enough for you. Self-confidence: the key ingredient to removing the devil's workshop in an idle mind. Great piece!
