The Beauty of Life
I take a journey every day
upon my road of life to see
the beauty that surrounds me well,
amid the ugliness of hate,
of fear and pain, unwelcomed death;
of prejudice, and worldly strife.
For moving me is life itself-
the greatest gift I'll ever know.
And yet, above the want to see
must be my want to give and share
whatever beauty I can lend
before my road comes to an end.
For as a glowing rose, so fresh,
blots out the peril of its thorns,
and one small pebble on the beach
obscures the blankness of the sand;
one ounce of free and flowing love
outspreads a ton of vicious hate.
Although the blankness, thorns, and hate
with me will somehow always be-
to them, I cannot shut my eyes.
But let my heart and mind be soothed
by goodness smothering the pain-
and let life's precious beauty reign.
