Terror Yet Triumph

The plane flew low there through the air and rammed into its side, And thousands working there that day so soon, so soon had died. The tragedy has shaken all, but we know now where we stand: We stand for freedom and for truth here in this mighty land. But as the workers cleared debris we saw a mighty fact: That though those evil men had done this great, destructive act, A flag was pulled from all the dust, attached still to its pole, And as we looked we saw again in our very inner soul That we Americans will unite, we’ll triumph through this fate, We’ll show what freedom really means in this United States. Yes, terror struck us on that day, but triumph struck us, too, As once again we saw there wave the red, the white, the blue. Inspired from a photo taken as men cleared debris from destroyed World Trade Center.
