Tender Footsteps
Tender Footsteps
Lately I’ve been listening
as I close my eyes to find.
I hear the tender footsteps
that sometimes cross my mind.
99 my grandma was
I loved her chicken fried.
With me still she always will
though years ago she died.
The father that I never knew
was right there all along.
Gone for now though it might be
he helps me carry on.
A thousand miles or more between me and my only daughter.
Still, she is the air I breathe
I need her more than water.
Friends I loved along the way
they left me broken hearted.
Yet, to me they’ll always be
my own dearly departed.
Mother dear so far from here
I’ve not left you behind.
The queen of tender footsteps
that sometimes cross my mind
