Tell Me

How do I feel about this life of mine Is a question that haunts me all the time What have I added to the lives of people around Love, hatred, happiness or grief profound I have had you in my life for a time brief But from you I have gained strength, warmth and relief Even though my actions made you cry, you smiled through your tears You helped me stand up and face my fears You are as human as I am, and you need support too To face your life and to get through But I am locked up in me and I am in a bad phase So “I am there for you” has become a meaningless phrase My thoughts have been dark like the mind I possess My words and deeds have brought you only distress But you stand by my side and like a rock you are steady And despite my wounds, to face the world, I am ready But what have I given to you in return Not a trace of a smile, only your tears run From those eyes, so beautiful and deep I only give you reasons to weep I realize that I am a deeply flawed person Tough to live with, I am never fun I wish I could do something to make you smile Tell me now, I’ll do it just this while
