Tainted Trust
World leaders say that they trust each other,
but continue maintaining intelligence
service, and lethal weapons in their hidden stores.
Our presidents and ministers say that they trust us,
but have security personnel around them,
in case one of us turns against them.
Couples say that they trust each other,
but keep secret bank accounts,
in case one of them files for divorce.
We say we trust in God,
but our hearts keep on clinging on to fear,
fearing that God might not be hearing us.
We say we trust ourselves,
but our hearts keep on clinging on to fear,
fearing that we might not succeed
in whatever we do or dream.
I think you will trust me if I say that in reality,
we utter the word “trust” in many occasions,
but fail to live it, hence tainting it.
