Sweetest Dream
You're still the best I've laid my eyes on,
you're still the sweetest dream I've had.
I still recall the vivid smile you shone at me -
a beam among the darkness of a winter night.
A gleaming light which hinted that I got a chance
to make it so that I could call you "baby".
A chance I had, a chance I've wasted
and then another, wasted, too.
I'd hate to seem like I'm making up excuses
but it's the constant sense of shame that I was born with
that holds me back from spitting out
the words that I've been dying to mumble to your face.
I look for comfort in "it wasn't meant to be",
I look inside my head and find you hiding.
You're still the best I've laid my eyes on,
you're still the sweetest dream I've had.
