Sweet Suffering's Kiss
When I first made this promise with you
I thought that as you'd said you would do,
But to be gone for no more than a moment
And find that my trust, you'd dented and bent?
I gave you my knowledge, and then some more
I thought you'd be nice and good to the core.
That someday we'd triumph and find an answer
To the problems we found and tried to make better.
Since then, I never said a word about your betrayal,
It had to be business and nothing personal,
But I too never thought that your broken decision
Would find me lost in heartbreak and confusion.
You still smile and wave happily my way
I still laugh with you like I did every day,
But now, each day I feel Sweet Suffering's kiss
All because you broke a seemingly small promise.
