Survival

Standing erect among the frozen trees Above the frost kissed brush below With soft brown fur, antlers held high A lone deer stands, puts on a proud show. As if to say, this is my place for now I was not put here to hang on your wall I was put here to create more like me So they can find their space and stand tall. The evolution of life will define my path As long as you stay out of the way Nature will decide when I must leave Make room for the others on this day…

A situation I have seen frequently in the years we've lived here Betty. White Tailed deer roam a large area all around our house, but I do object when they choose to devour my Hostas. They regard them as a delicacy, so I've had to erect barriers. Lovely creatures but very skittish, and flee, tails waving, if they spot you. I agree with your thoughts. Hunting for trophies? I would like to see guns banned altogether! Fondest Denis.
