Summertime
Summertime
Where did our lovely summer go—
those dreamy days of fun-filled time?
It seems just yesterday the change came slow
while waiting for cold winter's clime
to bow, give way to sweet springtime.
Was it not just the other day
the budding Crocus made us smile
and know that soon we'd see the month of May
lead into days of carefree style
that make our summer wait worthwhile?
Now here is August at late summer's door
with her scent of coming fall,
and faded greens and grass that turn before
the trees heed Autumn's chilly call
to spread her burnished red-gold shawl.
Why does this time go by so fast—
these sunny days of summer fun?
Long waited for, they never seem to last.
In a wink, they're gone and done
to let new seasons follow rule of Sun.
