Summer's Wish Premiere Contest Winner

One night a-twinkling in the sky, I spied a clever firefly Who glowed the same faint silver-gray As stars a million miles away. ***** Although most stars remain afar I reached out with a big glass jar Then with a quick and sudden -SWISH- I caught a twinkling summer's wish! ***** I whispered to him my desire, Then set him free -- that twinkling fire. With lightning speed he went, and soon He twinkled right on past the moon. ***** Now when I'm in the dark of night. If I but look, I'll see his light. A-twinkling faithful in the sky My clever little firefly!

This was one of my first writes on this site. My three year old daughter has it memorized and we tell it as a bedtime story quite frequently.

Hi Preston, I rated this a 7 because it twinkles just like those fireflies many of us love. I do remember chasing them when I was a child as they glowed in the night in Iowa. Blessigs, Darlene

In Louisiana, we had millions of fireflys until they started spraying for Mosquitoes! Now we have the same score as the New Orleans Saints ZERO!

That's really too bad. I have a special fondness for fireflies...I probably owe many of them an apology for crowding them into jars and shaking vigorously to watch them all light up. I am certain it wasn't as much fun for them as it was for me.

I grew up in Utah, and we didn't have them there either. I fell in love with the fireflies in Pennsylvania, and while not as bountiful in Oklahoma where I live now, I do occasionally catch sight of them in the late summer months. In truth, I've never seen one that wasn't a yellow-green colored glow, but they are beautiful nonetheless...well, as bugs go anyway.
