Summer By the Ocean

The sun’s rays Beat through the clouds, Creating silver sparkles Upon the crest of the waves, Which surround the lonely sailboat drifting Towards the small rocky island. Green tuft of trees, like hair, Growing over the bald spots. Small cottage clinging to the point Like a poor man’s castle. The arbutus are shedding their rusty peel, Revealing rich golden nakedness beneath. Pine fragrance hovers around me From trees not yet eaten by the pine beetle. I hear my hound rustling in the leaves behind me As she chases yet another annoying insect, While sitting on my bluff Surveying the never ending landscape. Wide open skies and great expanse of ocean, Toy sailboats in the hazy distance, Sound of lapping waves below me. Mother Nature has outdone herself again!
