Summer
Summer
Woken from stern Winter's darkened hours
As slow Season's turn, warm Summer smiles,
Her radiance bestowed on sunlit flowers.
Birds swoop and glide beneath the azure sky
And under the greenwood cloak sing their song
Where lovers bewitched in timeless promise lie.
Paths where butterflies dance in erratic flight.
Insects swarm above still, shaded pools
And on nectar filled flowers, to feed, alight.
From bright mid-day's glare to evening's glow,
As the passing lengthened daylight hours cool
Chilled winds of fast fading Summer blow
And Nature's generous stores overflow.
