Author's Notes:  This is a "Tanka" or a Japanese verse form write on the subject of "Stupidity." This write reflects my poetic view (and personal view) of an negative human attribute or foible that all of us experience at one time or certainly another (hopefully not too much) in our individual lives. This "mask of ignorance," as I like to coin it, constitutes what I call in this Tanka:  "Negation's ugly face . . . ."  And it's a sad negative characteristic that should be challenged when it's ridiculous result has an impact on our individual life or the lives of our loved ones.  A thought here to ponder next time any of us experience a "human nature adventure" where "stupidity" is so-employed by one of our fellow human beings who decides to be thoughtless and perhaps rude.  Be careful -- human nature is always in motion and "stupidity" can present itself when you least expect it!!  (Gary Bateman - May 15, 2015) (Tanka)

Thanks Andrea!! Yup -- I see the same thing sad to say. People should really think a little more about what they write -- and always be kind. I will try to read more of your poetry. As mentioned, I was in overdrive recently getting my first book published. I plan to do a second one over the next 18 months or so. (The second one will be both selected poetry and a section of short stories.) I'm excited about it!! Cheers, Gary

You've hit the proverbial, "nail on the head", Gary. So true.

ML, I agree with you!! I find now when I'm doing Tanka writes, I like to do them in pairs with the subject of one Tanka being the polar opposite of the other. Unfortunately, "Stupidity" among people in general is a foible that will always present itself at times as we attempt to interact with other people. We can only hope for the best!! Cheers, Gary

I have been enjoying reading your newer works, Gary. This is very well-written, as to be expected from such an awesome poet such as yourself. You've nailed it! And your author's notes, again, are always appreciated. Always, Laura

Hello Laura, As always my great fellow poet I'm humbled by your most gracious comments. With the Tanka writes now, I usually address them in pairs. So if one is possible, the other will be its converse. (The reflects more the binary nature things . . . .) I just posted on 19 May "Goethe's Emissary," which is a double dactyl write. You might like this one too Laura. I will be by to check out your poetry without a doubt. During 21-29 May I will be down in southern Germany on a trip. Always collecting new ideas for poems and short stories. All The Best To You!! Cheers, Gary
