Still a Soldier

I lay here today a soldier I know some don't understand I will try to explain So maybe you can I served my country For many a year I retired long ago The soldier still here I put on my uniform I wore it to foreign lands The soldier I was Is still in the man I have been a husband, father, and friend To some of you here But I've been a soldier all along Even after so many a year My final salute I render today I'm still a soldier I'm just on my way

Hi Timothy, this is such a beautiful poem. I also have a request for use. I wasn't sure how else to contact you, other than a comment. I am interested in using this in a poetry/discussion activity for Veterans Day for a website. Hope to hear from you! Genevievejencson@gmail.com

Beautiful. I would like to post on a Hometown Hero facebook site with your permission? We have been working on banners for over 1 year and hung our first 135 before memorial day 2017. I am the daughter of a Guadalcanal Soldier, and this poem sums his feelings so beautifully. My email is oldisbest@comcast.net, if you would care to contact me. If not, I understand. Your poem is very special and no doubt very personal to you. I think it describes other Vets feelings as well.

Great write Timothy. My belief too. You can take the man out of the army but never the army out of the man. I will always be a soldier until my last parade. God Bless. D.

Thank you Linda. I married my second wife after I had already retired after 22 years in the Army. She doesn't understand that I am a soldier till the day I die. I have tried to explain, but it is sometimes very difficult to properly describe a feeling so deeply rooted with words alone.
