Steps
I ran until the soles of my shoes
began to bruise.
Race against time;
I was about to lose.
Addiction grabbed my mind,
I lost ability to choose.
I forgot my name,
or why I came,
and when I couldn't find a vain
oh, I would go insane.
Could not maintain.
Hold on, rocky terrain.
Rough times ahead
but man I've seen some
better days,
and better ways to get through
what's ahead in this god forsaken place.
You don't always see it with your eyes,
you only see my disguise
or when I say the truth
you simply ask, why?
But I found people who saw through me,
people who saw the true me,
people who spoke the truth
and would speak it to me.
That broke loose chains
of what was a deranged brain,
insane, caged, afraid.
Brought to light,
shimmered through
and brought with the change
and I'm not the same,
but I can be if you give me
chemicals and a day.
So I set out to be straight,
please catch me if I break.
