State of the Nation Nature unchaste, river waste drifts; distasteful scene. Shorebirds in flight, gray and white gulls; despite foul winds. Mercury fear; poison-smeared fish make dreary food. *January 29, 2019 For Charles Messina’s Than-Bauk Contest

Crucial message wrapped in clever Than Bauk rhyme. Nicely done, Carolyn and G.L. in the contest. Best wishes, Gershon

I remember as a child going to the shop to pick up groceries and everything was fresh and sold loosely now the food we have is full of chemicals wrapped in plastic that finds it's way to our oceans and on land. The world is becoming one big dustbin. Good luck. Tom

So many of our favorite places have changed, Tom. The plastic refuse is choking fish and wildlife. Thanks for sharing

Too true; people today really do not care what their grandchildren will need to eat. Good luck! Aloha! Rico

I worry there'll be nothing safe left to eat, Rico. Thanks for reading, my friend.
