Start and Completion of a Poem

Start and Completion of A Poem Sometimes it is difficult to explain certain things in your life. For instance, why start and end up completing a poem? It could be either to fulfill a need or satisfy a desire. I just wake up in the morning and there a poem is. Also, I could have awakened during the middle of the night. A few rhyming words or two sentences start to appear. I am afraid of forgetting them so immediately write them down. It seems like the race is on from there to complete the poem. Length of time could be anywhere from 30 minutes two hours. So far, it has taken me fifteen minutes to write all of this out. In stead of writing it down, I am directly typing it up. What subject is it that automatically starts flowing through my fingertips? A desire is something that you wanted to have and thought about. My poem just came flying out early first thing in the morning. My mind hasn't had time to become involved in the daily trivialities of life yet. You can call this a poem, a story or just a group of sentences if you like. Of course, there meaning will vary from person to person and poet to poet. Heaven knows what affect sexuality will have on all of this. I am a man so that starts biasing you as to how I think. We all have varying degrees and amounts of interests, abilities and desires. I must also include training, education and experience some where along the line. Those six factors are me to the iota and are reflected in all of my poems. I didn't live in a library or a study all of my life like Shakespeare or Keats or Shelley. I am a 21st Century poet/writer who is 73 years old and married for 48 years. My experience is 30 years in personnel administration and six years as an economist. My Master's Degree is in Labor Economics and BA Degrees in Sociology and Psychology. My Dad was in the Navy and was killed in an accident at sea on board the USS Intrepid. This was off the coast of Sicily just after I had turned 15 years old. I have been writing poetry at one time or another ever since. My poems number over 800 in www.poetrysoup.com under James Thomas Horn. I have 20 composition books full of poems that are not typed up upstairs. http://www.story-telling-around-the-world.com/poetry-for-adults.html The first three sections of the above are part of my poems. In the Haiku section, there is a Favorite Poems that reverts you back to Poetry Soup. It would be interesting to have completed a poetry book for publication
