Starlight
My eyes were on the ground today,
My heart kicked into dust.
My soul felt full of tears today,
My spirit crumbling rust.
And so I dragged the dog and me,
Into blackness on the hill.
And left the village bright and busy,
For the darkness, soft and still.
Up the rise my steps stepped slowly,
Nightfall: silent, soft and sad.
But on the crest the breeze burst freely,
Rippling, running, laughing, glad!
It tucked my hair behind my ears,
With fingers fine, so I could see
The black night fling a thousand stars,
To pave my path through dark debris.
And then I felt His touch of silver,
And I knew He had my hand,
Felt Love melt the icy shiver
Round my heart, a steel cold band.
