Standing People
From the mighty oak
to the redwood tall,
the willow weeping
the maple in the fall
they stand.
Be it the baobab,
the alder or yew
they stand in their majesty
with morning dew
they breathe.
The holly or ginkgo,
the aspen and pine
raise their arms skyward
as in prayer sublime
they live.
