Standing My Ground
I once wrote a poem full of hatred and scorn
for someone who hurt me quite badly;
with feelings a-shattered, emotions all worn,
I faced the new world, rather sadly;
I got to my feet and said “no” to defeat,
and rose to meet all of my doubters;
there were troubles indeed and also some heat,
but I never let them become routers.
So now I can say, pretty much every day
that there’s little that I cannot handle;
With boys by my side for the rest of the way,
from now till they light the last candle.
