Squirrels Know Better

Squirrels Know Better Written By Brett Somers On 3-17-16
Does a squirrel know it made a mess? Does it worry its scurry Is second best? Ravishing nuts Discarding shells Leaves flying Amongst dust feather tails When it bolts up a tree Does it complain about Its ADD? Or feel remiss Of the breaking branch On which it sits Why then do I gloom Over my disheveled room? The stacks of paper Heaps of clothes I plow through Why is the word procrastination A brick of dastardly creation? When all along I’ve been uncovering And discovering. My time well spent? Does the squirrel even reflect On which way it went? Who’s to say What’s good or bad anyway The matter that matters Is that chamber That pitter patters My soul is complete Regardless of where I take my feet Come on squirrel Let’s scurry up that tree We’ve got a nut to eat

Brett, our lives are similar to that of squirrels----a helter-skelter existence in which we do not allow ourselves to stop and smell the roses. The most obvious differences are that our brains are larger than theirs and we have outgrown living in trees. I enjoyed reading your poem. Have a great St. Patty's Day and remember to wear green. ~ Sonia

Thank you Sonia. I got by yesterday wearing orange actually and amazingly enough nobody pinched me on the NYC subway. ;) ~Brett
