Speak Freely

Give me some contention I need a good head spin I don't think you can fathom All the trouble that we’re in Serve free speech for dinner Let's cut it to pieces To divide it among us And see how far it reaches If you told me what you thought Would I be compromised? And in the heat from your fire Would I have to pick sides? If I told you what I thought Would it pull out your roots? Would it give you the impulse To give me the boot? I am no dogmatist Man, I just want the truth If you ban the contention You are banning the proof If some opinions are contraband Then can't I conclude: If the truth can't defend itself How is it true?

For sure; truth is so true, that it is self evident...the truth you speak of. Great write!

I chose this one because of the Political Verse label; my genre of choice. And I really enjoyed this piece. Thank you for sharing it. What goes around, comes around. Sometimes.

Great poem, Kyle. Wouldn't it be wild if the truth just bit us all on the butt!!! Then nobody could argue with their petty opinions.

Correct all the way...but social conduct impedes the flow...the truth can offend so easily...and often times it's made on a wrong premise...Nice poem...I like the clarity and message...All the best

Thanks for dropping by Kyle. I am so glad you did as I probably would not have got to read your poetical take, (and very apt it is too), on free speech thank you... Mick

I am cheering for Serve free speech for dinner. Let's cut it to pieces. and If you told me what you thought would I be compromised? Well thought out, and lovely execution. Provoked my dendrites.

Very good poem about how it's so hard to speak freely - most people tell you what they think you want to hear. Great message, Kyle.
