Sparrow

No more flocks of sparrows Covering my grass with brown Very few song thrushes flying Or bashing snails on the ground I have seen a Robin redbreast And a solitary little Wren But I don’t think I’ll ever see So many wild birds again Their habitat has been pillaged More staple crops to grow The deadly sprays kill insects That they feed on don’t you know But it doesn’t end there The little wild birds plight Other cultures use sticky branches To trap them in the night And our favourite moggies Deplete the numbers too Killing wild birds every day For something fun to do Let’s try to stop our pets Making some species extinct Put bells around our moggies necks To make them go chink chink

I like this poem though it tells a sad tale. What are moggies - are they cats? Peace & Blessings Matthew Anish

That is a good idea..I wonder what my cat would do with a bell around her neck?..I suspect that she would go wild trying to remove it or run away from it..Enjoyed reading your work today..I have been putting out food, water and suet which seems to draw them..We have some bird boxes for them to nest scattered around the yard..I need to do more of them so that they will have comfortable place to nest and live..Sara
