Southern Girl

I minted purity in flowers dancing daisies, wild wheat blowing thus in brittle wind which grandma said comes from out east I blacked knees with soil skin roots entangled, frying sun 'gainst the wilting of the winter toward a breath that's just begun I lit the candles on the back deck air gone sheer with heat delight smoking whispers of a sunburn held on cheeks well through the night I kissed the calling of desire mirrored eyes, impetuous mouth and beat my heart to the pulse of summer bare feet finally at home in the south.
