Soul Center
Dip into the well
taste the purity
on your tongue
rest against
the moss-covered stones
let the sun
warm your face
watch as the dust
dances by
in the bright rays
Enter my soul
that place of quietude
i rarely visit
but when i do
i dread leaving
from the surface
this oasis seems
unlikely, at best
but if you gaze
long enough
into my eyes
you can hear
the soft dripping
of water
smell the fresh-cut grass
feel the serenity
in the crisp, cool air
Beyond the walls
of my garden eden
a storm is raging
fierce winds
batter the gates
lightning illuminates
the turbulent clouds
thunder raises its voice
to be sure it is heard
sheets of rain
come in waves
washing across
the desolate land
But inside
not one of the flowers
is drowned
no rivers of muddy water
cut through
sodden hillsides
nothing of this violence
touches this
place of peace
but a rainbow
almost-invisible
beads of moisture
reflecting
refracting
the light of the sun
that beams so steadily
down on this spot
Let me stay here
for however long
i can
to soak up
the calm
in the eye
of a storm
that would never
touch me
would i stay
by this well
drinking the purity
that fills me
with a tranquility
i cannot find
in the chaos
that is
life
Yet i remember
as i stop
every so often
to wipe the droplets
of the downpour
from my weary eyes
that oasis
that garden eden
that place of quietude
place of peace
i smile then
And fight on
so that i can
once more
relax in the center
of my soul
