Sophia's Abc Masquerade Ball

Sophia's ABC Masquerade Ball A masquerade ball of wisdom’s wisdom in a wink and a smile Blessings in disguise –uncovered - not hidden in plain sight Costume ball for aha moments comfortable in their own skin Dancing discernments so light on their feet – dancing on air - Elegant eloquence self-evident - no charades behind masks or eyes filled with stars Festive fundamentals of sweet understanding trip the light fantastic - Getting into the groove – give it a whirl - no two left feet for Humble agreement unifying two dancer’s cotillion Intuition’s insights of infinite wisdom unmasked in understanding Jump and jive when discovered quite by surprise Kissed by sheer delight and laughter or caressed in consolation Lifetimes of proverbs accept the invitation to fill their dance cards, live and learn, Maxims and mottos – mothers of invention – chaperone this carnival - Nods of recognition in nuggets of wisdom cross finite dance floors - Over the moon when asked to dance - little words speaking volumes - Perspective and simplicity slow dance to shower pennies from Heaven, Quick as a wink, on the masquerade queen for a day; Ribbons of common threads rendezvous in a boogie-woogie Silver linings revealed by the star struck song and a dance; Transparent masks of second sight glimpse into common ground Unveiling tigers of truth not pouncing but purring softly in waltzes - Vanish the shadows of disagreement – not cutting in on virtuous patience Whirling in a dance joined by the rhythm of deep agreement where X marks the spot as inspired ideas rejoice in shared understanding Yielding precious pearls – treasure of the tender memo received - read and acknowledged - Zeroing in on Sophia’s masquerade ball. This has such intriguing metaphors, especially love 'Lifetimes of proverbs accept the invitation to fill their dance cards' - throwback to a cotillion, maybe? Congratulations on your win!

Per usual, you nailed it Michelle. Cotillion, masquerade balls at Mardi Gras and New Year's Eve. It was so much fun to craft. I am delighted it was a winner. Thank you for your congratulations. Most appreciated!

My two kids were both involved in cotillion, a word I rarely hear used. They enjoyed it very much!

Part 2: wonderful use of alliteration, excellent rendering of the tricky abecedarian form, and wonderful layering of multiple elements. Love it! Thank you for writing and sharing ~ John

Extra innings post script. I really like your interpretation of the two lovers unmasking a growing relationship. One other way to look at this piece is discovering the grains of truth and wisdom in our every day idioms - communication through verbal shorthand! Stay well! Grace and peace to you.

Wow, Sam! This is a poetic peanut M&M of several layers to unveil, each one tasty! On the outside, a candy coating of carefully considered cleverness, i.e. alliterative awesomeness. Next, the chocolate context of the dance, ball, waltz. Under that, the masquerade, costume, disguise and masks. Then finally , the peanut of wisdom, maxims, patience, and understanding. My take: two people in a relationship (dance) seeking to unmask the silver linings within, pursuing unity with truth and wisdom?

OMGoodness, John. Thank you. This poem has been in the back of my mind for a while - took some time to develop - a challenge to integrate all of the different elements. So glad you liked it! The abecedarian form is like an acrostic to me and I love acrostics. Hope your family had a wonderful Mother's Day. Blessings dear friend.
