Sonnet: I Died No More
I died and passed beyond the veil of life
Into a world of silence and of sleep
A place of darkness free from worldly strife
Where nothing stirs and nothing wakes or weeps
The light that shone so bright within my heart
Has faded now and left me all alone
My voice is stilled, no longer can I start
A song or tale that's not already known
But in this quiet place I may find peace
And leave the cares of life so far behind
My soul unburdened by the world's increase
My spirit free from all that once confined
Though I am gone, I know that I still live
And in the hearts of those I loved, I give.
