Song of Solace

Carry my limp body to the riverbank and lay me down, ever so gently. Listen! Do you hear? Listen as you hold on still, to the song of solace. Hear the serene roar of gushing over rocks and branches and silt, cool and kind upon my feet, engulfing my legs and soothing my spine as I sink deeper into liquid crystal. Open your ears to nature’s call, so subtle in the sparrow’s chirp, also, the trees imitating rattlesnake warnings when leaves obscure one another’s path. Now, silence… only but a few rustles frequently sound, peacefully, as heartthrobs cease to the rhythm of a sad tango. I thank the One granting me this final breath, the evidence of life and source of my feeble existence so I may bid you farewell. Hold me ‘till I give up fighting. Arrange forget-me-nots in my hair, then walk away. Let me drift into conscious oblivion. Allow my heart to sink into the depths of grace, let the silt scrub me bare. Pray my soul once more be drenched in forgotten memories and shed a tear for those buried in the Song of Solace.
