Sometimes They Think
They don't know just what it's like
pretending I'm okay.
It's as if sometimes they think
I can wish my pain away.
With anguish on the inside
no place for me to turn.
I tried I cried and I denied
I guess I'll never learn.
I don't know how it all began
I don't know where to start.
It seems to me the day I'm born,
I had a broken heart.
A child with an old man's soul
seeing things without my eyes.
I can't explain I can't refrain
and no one hears my cries.
And so I live from day to day
just trying to do my best.
Sold out from the inside
by the heart in my own chest.
From years behind that come again
and innocence that's lost.
You cannot purchase freedom
when you can't pay the cost.
And they don't know just what it's like
pretending I'm okay.
It's as if sometimes they think
I can wish my pain away.
