Sometimes Saddest Endings, Are the Righteous Remedy
Sometimes Saddest Endings, Are The Righteous Remedy
There at the turn, the sharp-toothed crooked end
A righteous river, drowned my only friend
Twas' remedy for a life - a sad end
He was no lamb, so let us not pretend
A dark rascal, a hard-hearted lost soul
Vagabond, traveler on wicked paths
Full of his greed, treasure his only goal
Walked he blind from his deep angry wrath!
He that was once friend, a very fine man
Sailed his ship straight, blessing dawn's treasure
Yet in him was evil born from his clan
A wild streak tossed in for good measure
I too, walked in the dark by his side
Thinking we were true heroes on the loose
I left, its evil I could not abide
He said - "too tame, rather die by the noose"!
I heard he went up North for a short spell
Found a pretty gal, settled down a bit
She then left him- in a deep pit of hell
And the bottle he so soon after hit
So sad that his redemption was lost
In misery, he vowed, world shall pay
He, my friend, then paid a heavy cost
He wed the dark -hiding from light of day!
There at the turn, the sharp-toothed crooked end
A righteous river, drowned my only friend
Twas' remedy for a life - a sad end
He was no lamb, so let us not pretend!
Robert J. Lindley,
July 2nd, 1980
(As seen the end came, life moved ever onward )
Old Note: July 2nd, 1980
Hold the horses, sun its flame yet burns bright
There in the coming dusk, shadows of night
A whisper of something, a fleeing word
An old poet just begging to be heard
His pen racing across paper so white
O' the wicked beasts it did so hard smite
And within the shadows, a voice sounded
You offend, into dust will be grounded
I that reach from darkness, your soul will eat
I that sing forth blackness, no man defeats
Set thy pen aside, bow to worship me
Else, I will drown you in the darkest sea.
The reply came it was quite sharp and quick.
It was- "choose thy sword- I give you first pick".
New note- 12-24-2020
Forty years -my how they have swiftly flown
Yes, sad tragedies, such I have thus known
True, your raging sword has slain many men
Yet it has not dulled this poet's brave pen…...
