Soldier's Love For Her

Soldier's Love for Her He had been shot through the breast Then they placed his body at rest While she was with tears in her eyes Beneath bright sun and clear blue skies. With rest of her life, what would she do? She bent down and flowers picked a few, Which recently were beautifully in bloom Put in vase beside his picture in her room. Thought of him and how he had been And wondered where she should begin Explaining things happening in the past; How much longer will life and love last? His life on earth was now over and done And a new one in heaven had begun; Her flag in front yard flies at half mast, While his love for her will forever last. Good heavens Ed. I had to make quite a few changes to accentuate a soldier which my son, Grandfather in Spanish-American War and I once was who has since retired. Poetry Soup should have a Military Minds Poetry contest. This could become the first entry. What do you think? I am also at www.story-telling-around-the-world.com under Poems by Adults followed by a Military section. My dad was killed on the Carrier Intrepid in August, 1956.
