Soldier
Enemy captures one of our own,
his family wondering if he will make it back home
Left in darkness cold and alone,
not a meal in sight to feed his skeleton bones
Sacrificing his life for strangers he don’t even know,
had to leave his family all alone
Fighting for our country so we can be free,
when all along he's being tortured in a place unknown
Face is cut, bruised and scarred,
from the hands of his enemies who are now in charge
Sounds in the distance of grenades and bombs,
he kneels down to pray,
“Lord help me get through another day”
Never knowing when its day or night,
left in a dark cement room with no sun light
The door opens his enemy steps in, only to beat him once again
Hiding in the corner in a fetal position,
taking another beating for the country in which he lives in
Enemy leaves the cold dark room, leaving the soldier bruised and confused
Wanting to end his life to spare anymore pain,
he thinks about his family once again
He was born an American he knows not to give up
Hearing fighter jets flying overhead
hoping his comrades are coming to spare his life
He hears footsteps in the distance, he tries to stand up,
the beatings that he has endured have left him unable to fight
Footsteps turn into gun fire, a moment of silence
The door opens, his comrades lift him up and take him into the night
From soldier to POW a second chance at life
Receives his medals and is returned to his wife
A husband, a father, an American hero
