So This Is Retirement
People used to run to my house
Call me “Mommy”
Give me hugs, ask me to babysit their children
I had a use
These people have become strangers
Their children are dating and driving
No one needs me any more
I have had to entertain myself
At first it was art, painting, cartooning
Then it was poetry and word games
I am sick to death of TV
What have I not seen?
Every show the same as the last
Yet here I sit in my recliner
Gaining ten extra pounds a day
clicking a button
No use to anybody
Especially not to myself
So this is retirement
