Every teddy knows that every girl and and every boy Needs to have a teddy who will be their pride and joy A teddy bear companion in the life of him or her Will be a snuggle buddy even when they’ve lost their fur For when a bear is truly loved its fur will start to wear A sure sign that that cherished bear was carried everywhere And snuggled with your bear at night when mum turns out the light There is no need to fear the dark with teddy cuddled tight But wait, I hear you say, what if you haven’t got a bear The truth is there’s a bear for everybody, everywhere But there’s no Santa Claus for those who never think to ask So bears are brought to children by a teddy in a mask Sky Ted lives upon a cloud, he has a telescope He uses it to see through ceilings in persistent hope That every child he finds will have a bear to help him cope But Sky Ted takes corrective action when his scope says, “Nope.” For rainbows don’t just happen; Sky Ted makes them with a wish And rides down on a unicorn to visit little kids So if you haven’t got a bear, there’s no need to complain For Sky Ted distributes his teddies, even in the rain But Sky Ted has a schedule that will sometimes leave him beat And one or two of you have bears you think you’ll never meet For it’s a great big world and Sky Ted truly does his best But there's a teddy looking down, with your name on its vest So if you’re too old for a bear (which never shall be true) You sense someone, but no-one’s there - your bear is watching you So hug the bear you have; if you have none then just pretend For wherever your bear may be, he’s there and he’s your friend For every child that’s ever born, a teddy bears their name And Sky Ted’s making rainbows, which to him is not a game So whether you be four or forty, even ninety eight Your bear will one day find you: All you need to do is wait.

Was the rhyme deliberate, Tom. Or are you some kind of international poet?

This is a beautiful nursery rhyme. I bought my daughter a teddy owl when she was little. Then, in later years, she bought me a valentine teddy bear.

Thanks, Hilda. Glad you enjoyed. It wasn’t quite what I sat down to write but it kinda had a will of its own.

I didn't have a teddy bear growing up, although I did have several stuffed animals. I enjoyed this poem, suitable for any age to read. Now I need to buy me and my hubby a teddy bear like Sky Ted (great name btw, reminds me of Sky King TV series of my youth.) have a great evening, Terry!

I mentioned to Lin, rescuing some bears from a charity shop. This was true. They were smashing, high quality, loveable bears… and they were one pound (about a dollar ten). We rescued them and they all snuggle together to this day. Am I nuts or am I human? Don’t ask me!

Oh, I don't remember ever having a teddy. Thanks to you and Sky Ted, there's still hope I will get one some day.

I’m actually pretty sure I never had one either. Though we did rescue some from a charity shop on a few occasions. This was a weird one, Lin… I mis-heard someone on TV say ‘Sky Ted’ and thought, “Aha, my next superhero.” I knew there was a Super Ted, so Sky Ted had to be different. I just started writing and instead of action/adventure… I got a blinking nursery rhyme. But I kinda liked it, so shared it anyway. Sky Ted may return in superhero guise one of these days.
