Sisters

Sisters (Cassandra and Jane) Cassandra and her Jenny could not dwell long apart, they shared the same bedchamber and beating of one heart. When parted they wrote letters where sibling love would shine. In every sentence written, sweet laughter flowed like wine. Cassandra's love for Jenny was in the end employed, for fondness of her sister those letters were destroyed. No picking over missives the author left behind. No setting on that pathway to search into her mind. Cassandra loved her Jenny, loved her true and long, continued still to love her when life itself was gone.

Oh, I wondered why the letters would have to be destroyed and then i read what you said below. I did not know they were famous women you were writing of!I enjoyed the easy meter of this rhyming poem. And the sentiment. I have four sisters and love them dearly.

Jane was a successful novelist but shied away from public honour until shortly before her untimely death. Some of her novels were published posthumously.

An enjoyable smooth flowing poem. Great to see sisters who got on so well...we are 7 siblings and fortunately we always got on fairly well. Regards ... paul

As stated in some of my other responses, this is about Jane (Jenny) Austen and her elder sister Cassandra. Fortunately for me that same sibling love applied in my family.

Yes, that's what I always believed but there appears to be significant evidence to the contrary according to literature.

Well crafted, woven with a thread of sadness. 7 My best to you, chuck

Jane (Jenny) was a mere 41 years old when she died. As a prominent author any letters would have been pawed over and dissected to try to "understand" the backgrounds to her creations. Cassandra honoured her privacy.

That is sad indeed. I love my sister very much with the absolute certainty that love is reciprocated. I also have brothers whom I have always been close to but not as close as my sister.
