Sisters
A sister occupies my heart
Immense as a pavilion
She counts my laughs
Like stars – a million,
When I was in the woods
She found me there
Weeping on my knees
But lost somewhere
A nomadic wasp hurt
Her face and my hand
And we bleed together -
our blood tied on the land.
When I was far on the sea
She stayed behind me
I waved to her as long
As long she could see,
Still, they say, still my sister
Sometimes family is lost
But sometimes we found
An angel amid a holy Host.
