Siren Song of Slumber

Siren Song of Slumber The night is quiet and still, the stars playing hide and seek. Clouds floating across the sky, dawn is almost here. I sit and ask the universe why? Why, I cry? Why do I resist the siren song of slumber? Chaotic thoughts swirl, answers coming fast Arrows of light piercing the dark corridors of the past Rusted locks resisting the inevitable, doors open to reveal Candid reflections of our life and the path we chose. Breathing deep, eyes closed I dance through the memories Seeing so clearly now, intertwined souls Creating precious jewels of contentment. Warm kisses, long back rubs, holding hands, Contagious laughter, silly jokes, standing in the rain, Beautiful flowers, heartfelt hugs, sincere promises, Integrity, loyalty and whispers of “I love you” abound. Suddenly strangers, disoriented and confused Responsibilities, commitments … insistent distractions No time or energy to nurture, honor and protect Treasure chest now cracked, revealing our path Jewels slowly disintegrated and forever lost. My treasure chest empty; my soul wounded. In the dark, just before dawn, I ask….. Do I deserve new jewels of contentment? Thus, I must resist the siren song of slumber If not, how will I hear the answer?
