Since Youve Been Gone- a 24 Year Old Poem

Since you’ve been gone…. The flowers have lost their color The sun refuses to give its light The moon weeps in her sorrow And days have turned into night Since you’ve been gone Since you’ve been gone… The birds sing a mournful requiem The wind moans at the windowsill The sea threatens and billows The starlight has grown suddenly dim Since you’ve been gone Since you’ve been gone… My world has crumbled down The people laugh at my pain My strength has withered away My tears mix with the rain Since you’ve been gone Since you’ve been gone I’m haunted by the beauty of your smile I count the endless seconds and days I moan your name to my bedroom walls I wander around in an endless maze Since you’ve been gone Nothing, no nothing has been the same… Since you’ve been gone Eileen Manassian Circa 1991- 1992 I know there are some changes that need to be made to this, but I wanted to share this with you as I wrote it when I was about...24ish. I wrote it for my then boyfriend who is now my husband. He is the only man who has ever made love to me. I've known him since we were 12....

I wouldn't change it Eileen, it's always interesting to look at your old work and see the comparison to how you write now. Tell me, had he only nipped to the shops when you wrote this lol. Take care, Richard

Eileen, my dear! This is an instant fave for me. It seems you have been tugging at heartstrings with your poetry for quite some time! Your husband is one lucky guy. Also, a funny coincidence - I started writing poetry last year... when I was 24 :)

Imagine! Tell me, did you also write yours on a word processor??? I was a teacher at the time in Cyprus Overseas School and I have this poem as it was then typed on SCHOOL STATIONARY (shame on me) and on the school's word processor! ;) I didn't start when I was 24, but some of my earlier work is...what can I say. This one stood a chance to share. I'm going to share some of my religious work soon! HUGS!!!!

I kind of was expecting a write of mediocre quality(no offense, you were just younger), and I was pleasantly surprised to see a poem beyond even your most excellent works, such a tremendous poem this one truly is! I really enjoyed reading this delightfully grandiose piece this morning! What an enormously wondrous poem, Great Work!!

Russell....thank you!!!!!! Very sweet post. I do have a volume of earlier work that I will slowly incorporate into the site....they will be mostly religious pieces as the others were mostly very specifically for hubby or family members..... :) We will see...First, I need to dig them up! Thanks for the visit....

Your love for writing is evident and we are the beneficiaries. In total I have really only written for a total of Three years with most of my experience here at poetry soup. There was a seven year gap from the last time I wrote until a year ago.

Thanks, Richard....I loved writing from an early age. I have a few chapters of my novel, A Broken Man, that I wrote at 17 or so...during the war time. I've also written religious plays. Being a teacher in COS...I put on school plays and wrote most of them because I had to have enough characters to fit my number of students. I was a one room, multi grade teacher...I do love to write!!!! :)

Thanks, Tim. You are very kind. I'm afraid hubby does take advantage of that! ;) He often tells me, when I'm having some sort of fit and threatening to leave...."You CAN'T live without me!!" (very smug smile) True...true...he drives me bonkers sometimes, but I can't live without him!
