Simple Dreams

You lay your head on my lap and the cat climbs on your chest He greedily shares our caresses and is comforted in the warmth we make together, as we paint this tender memento in soft light He purrs his rumbling concerto; adagietto, adagio, adagissimo until you both fall asleep; my left hand stroking your soft hair, my right hand rests on his back, feeling you breathe, as if one The rhythm of three hearts, of three chests falling and rising is the syncopation of the soft vibrations of the two sleeping and the one watching in silent awe and perfect gratitude We float together, sailing on the dreamy seas of contentment Would that this voyage be infinite; that is now my humble wish But then, I feel this truth; this voyage, this time is indeed infinite For if love is simple, as simple as this single moment in time Then love is safe, as safe as the memory in this treasured image And love is infinite, as infinite as the dreams of these voyagers
