Silent Killer

It courses through the blood hidden from view it seeks out the T-cells attaching itself it silently goes to work Invading and taking over not caring if it's host be a young person or old killing of the white cells Your gender it cares nothing for or if you are straight or gay insidiously it can hide for years a master of disguise it patiently waits Growing stronger all the time breaking down the body's defences it corrupts turning cells alien not caring that as it slowly kills That eventually it will too die that as it completes its invasion leaving a sick body open to attack covered with open sores and abrasions This silent killer in murdering you does itself meet its own doom dying along with its host will we ever find a real cure? This is about Aids/ HIV though it could also refer to cancer HIV is ingenious in its ability to hide itself inspires by Harlan Coben's book Miracle cure

Excellent example of realism that when it comes to the bad things, they are granted out to no particular race, gender, religion, etc. Well done

You captured the stark reality of this disease perfectly. I really wish these conditions would meet their own doom ...love the line , "This silent killer in murdering you does itself meet its own doom"

Not sure which type of cancer attacks T-cells. Leukemia destroys bone marrow, hence red cells. Great topic and excellent treatment of it! Cheers, Roy

You did a good job expressing this unique aspect of Aids and also to cancer. They have really come a long way in treatments though compared to the 80's, don't you think? I sure like this poem you came up with!

These people have no after effects at all their bodies just do not allow the diease to take hold of their system. i just wanted to let you know that their is hope in the future if the doctors can find a way to harness this special cell, it may hold the key to a future cure. cheri

Well written my young friend, and well put, they are working hard on a cure right now, i saw a special on something this morning about this subject already it may make a difference it's source may surprise you remember the black plague in history way back, well the surviors ansisters have proven to have a resistence to your disease, they have a cell within their bodies that keeps them from getting this diease even after being subjected to a direct shot of it placed within their system. cheri

My dear Shadow, I hope this terrible plague has not afflicted you personally. Yet, you have sketched here an intense view of this remorseless killer. Like so many diseases we hear about these days: mad cow disease, hemorrhagic fevers, and others, our world at times seems to be overwhelmed with pathogens. I do not know how to prevent this but your wonderful poem here brings it to light. And that is largely what poetry is about, in my opinion. Good work! Hugs;) Sam

Prevention lies not only in medicine, but also in our actions. People seem to be letting their guard down and throwing sense and caution to the wind. Time to go back to basics. // paul

I was in my teens when aids seemed at it's most prevelent. It seemed to stop the free love of the 60s and early seventies in its tracks. It now seems to be back in full force with young people who now have friends with benifits. I wonder what the next sexually transmitted disease wil be???

CANCER AND all autoimmune diseases??? :O :( hope the human race will find better remedies readily available especially to those who can't afford.. ...... too much strewn risks factors are here that it's in our hands how we can prevent them to affect us... .. this a challenging prose and deep thought to one part of our body.... God bless Shadow, olive.. :)
