"shush"
Honking of never silent horns
and screeching of brakes
made my gait a bit quicker
as I jiggled the door handle
and entered..
The air hung low and still
every thought was tempered
with a louder 'Shush'
delivered by a prim someone,
in most proper garb,
and a soft command,
'Be quiet, people are reading'
What a contrast!
From the hectic of the street
to the books of 'The Library,'
said with respect!, I admit,
If I knew how loud
a footstep could be,
I would have worn slippers,
but I adjusted
by turning each page
most quietly
with unsure guilt
honoring the 'shush'
and appreciating
that pleasant contrast outside!
