I fell in love with someone else, but it should've stayed you
Restless desire to lay my head, on another shoulder, in another bed
O foolish heart which went astray, and didn't remain true
I saw another who had beautiful eyes, and a lovely smile to seduce
She said she had a lonely heart, and that I could be of good use
I fell in love with someone else, but it should've stayed you
We talked and laughed, and laughed and drank that ill-fated day
When I returned home, you could sense something amiss right away
O foolish heart which went astray, and didn't remain true
I know that what I did hurt you real bad, straight down to the core
It's understandable, at least to me, why you don't love me anymore
I fell in love with someone else, but it should've stayed you
In a lot of ways she reminds me of you, and in a lot of ways she don't
It show in the things she says she'll do, and in the things she says she won't
O foolish heart which went astray, and didn't remain true
I have so many regrets in life, but none are for loving you two
Hurting you was so unkind, it's something I never intended to do
I fell in love with someone else, but it always should've stayed you
