Shortcake

Strawberries and shortcake, With some whipped cream on its crown, Is the greatest ever birthday cake Deserving of renown. Though it's fallen out of favor, I remain a loyal fan, So to celebrate a birthday, I will buy one if I can. Seems the past can still provide us With a blueprint for a treat And a slice of whipped cream shortcake Is still heavenly to eat.

Oh, Ilene, this is so apropos and took me back to some dessert recipes my mother whipped up: rice pudding and lemon cups are a couple of these. Alas, I'm diabetic so can only break off a little corner of an Old Fashioned now and then.

This poem is fattening - but I really enjoyed it. You realize I's sure that in the Jewish tradition we speak of the "world to come" - who knows? B'Shalom Matthew Anish
