Short Song of Life

A mother scissor-tail dives at a crow chasing her foe across a empty sky. She is on the attack, past watching trees determined to guard her nest, her unborn. The yellow-jackets buzz around my head warning me to stay away from their nest. I swat at the hornets in my surprise--- I have children of my own to protect.
