I wish I could forget the night of my disgrace,
when on stage I wore shoes fashioned of red lace.
I took the role of seductress and played the part.
When I cheated on him I crushed his loving heart.
In my scarlet heels I became a brazen flirt,
kissing actors in love scenes that left him hurt.
What a foolish twit I was on the night I strayed.
My shoes were not worth the high price I paid.
I made a fool of myself with each step I took.
By wearing sexy shoes I was baiting my hook.
But they gave me blisters and pinched my toes.
On opening night I became the thorn on his rose.
I burned those shoes and watched the smoke rise,
as tears and mascara streaked my actress eyes.
I'm haunted by the scene in which I wore those shoes.
Instead of rousing applause, I deserved taunting boos.
