She Rises Above
the pages of her life had flipped
from forth to back, an ironic trick
her body moved without a care
for she was strong and young and fair
stumbling betrayal brought her low
with faltering steps, she trembled so
frail twigs for legs, weak limbs for arms
she shook in great dismayed alarm
yet mind and spirit, strong as steel
would not give in to depression's zeal
she rose, determined, from her plight
with gift of song, her voice took flight
her music soars as she inspires
in her wheelchair among the choir
