Shattered By My Own Hand

My heart remains shattered I didn’t fall in love with a girl Rather, I sort of sauntered into it But, eventually, there I was Not all in until too late Now not allowed where I want to go She showed me one day a drawing of her with her heart on the floor For what I’d done to her I was, after all, taken by another with a different life And could not be everything to her Or with her So today I am not allowed to know her Though I look from a distance and see This man who has given her what I didn't And I can only sit here and love her Wanting her life to be full of joy I did it all to me So I expect no sympathy Even though My heart remains shattered

When I read your poignant poem I thought of the saying "the heart wants what the heart wants". It is sad that is the way of this world. Congratulations on your win with this well written poem NW. 7 ; )
