Shared Reality
Awake and alive and really alone,
even in a crowd, that is what we are.
We reach out, we touch, we text, sometimes phone.
We intrigue, make love, at times loan a car.
We try to make contact in every way,
yet never sure if shared reality
is ever perceived so that one could say
I know! I know! I know exactly
what you mean, and then later you find
that it wasn't the same, or even close.
Both keep the myth of the moment, in kind,
and hide the disappointment in those
you thought were of exactly the same mind,
and resign yourself to the solitude you find.
